The racial composition of researchers by broad rating category for 2020 is given in Figure 23, and changes in the overall ethnic composition of NRF-rated researchers are illustrated in Figure 24. Compared to
2019, the number of African researchers has increased by 1 in the Promising Young Researcher and Established Researcher categories, respectively.

Although Indian researchers have dominated the pool of NRF-rated researchers historically, the highest growth rate since 2018 is amongst African researchers, who now comprise 33% of all NRF-rated researchers. Figure 24 refers.
