Per capita research publications outputs for DUT in 2019 equalled 0.58 units.This ranks DUT in 1st position amongst UoTs in South Africa on this indicator and 16th out of the 26 public institutions. The University was ranked 15th in terms of the weighted per capita (total) research output based on 609 permanent research/instructional staff and an overall 657.28 units, comprising 353.2832 publication units, 169 master’s and 135 doctoral units. capita ratio of 1.08 measures the efficiency of the institution and is used to rank institutions nationally. The University’s performance is well above the norm for UoTs and reflects a significant improvement over time (Table 6). It is also clear from a strategic point of view that increasing both the intakes and graduations at master’s and doctoral level is essential to maximise on the subsidy while contributing to human capital development.
