DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ANNUAL REPORT 2020
RELEASE OF THE REPORT BY
THE MTHIYANE INDEPENDENT
INQUIR Y
The independent inquiry into the death of student Mr Mlungisi Madonsela and related matters, as indicated in the 2019 Annual Report, completed its work in 2020 and a report was submitted to the Council. A copy of this report was shared with relevant stakeholders, including the DHET. The University has taken heed of various recommendations made in the report. The Council has also requested Management to pursue internal disciplinary action against certain students, who have been identified as having been implicated in violent acts as described in the report, and to work with the South African Police Services (SAPS) in bringing about criminal charges against other individuals, as recommended in the report.
ANNUAL PERFORMANCE PLAN
As prescribed by the Regulations for Reporting by Public Higher Education Institutions in terms of section 41 and read with section 69 of the Higher Education Act, 1997, Council approved the 2020 Annual Performance Plan (APP) as well as the Mid-Year Performance Report.
The Council also approved the University’s Extended Annual Performance Plan (EAPP), which represents the University Executive’s high-level contract with Council
in respect of its undertaking in pursuit of the strategic priorities articulated in the APP, and that acts as the University’s operational plan from which divisional plans as well as the performance agreements are formulated. The performance of the University, measured against the APP, is detailed in the University’s Performance Assessment Report. These matters are detailed in the various subsections of our integrated Annual Report.
COUNCIL AWARDS
As a part of the Council’s commitment to recognise the excellent work done by staff, a suite of staff awards was made for exceptional work undertaken in living and contributing to the University’s strategy.
