Thashiq Jagganath, a 22-year-old top achiever from Durban is poised to make his mark in the field of medical orthotics and prosthetics. Jagganath will be graduating Cum Laude for his Degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2024 Spring Graduation ceremony, taking place at the Durban Exhibition Centre, on Thursday, 19 September 2024.

“Completing my qualification with Cum Laude had brought immense joy to myself and my family, it is a milestone that I will truly treasure for the rest of my professional career and life as the amount of work and sacrifice that was put in during these years did not go in vain,” Jagganath explained.

His tertiary education journey began at DUT in 2020, he explained that he had faced some academic challenges along the way but he managed to overcome them. “It was a difficult four years for me but my sacrifices and dedication had helped me to get the best marks,” said Jagganath.

Even though his journey was not easy but on his final year he managed to balance his school work and attending lectures while doing his work-integrated learning. This remarkable feat demonstrated his commitment to excellence.

Jagganath said that the DUT values that had shaped his academic and personal growth was honesty and respect. He emphasised the importance of maintaining these values.

“I tried to maintain these values throughout my period of study as I felt that these values were the most important as everyone either at home, school or work deserve to be treated with respect,” said Jagganath.

He further said respect and honesty had been instilled in him from a very young age at home from the teaching of his spiritual master and parents.

As he begins his career in Johannesburg, Jagganath offered valuable advice to first-year students, saying: “Be diligent, respectful, and never look down upon your mates. Be grateful for the opportunity to make a difference,” said Jagganath.

He is currently pursuing his passion in the field of orthotics and prosthetics at a practice in Johannesburg, a position he obtained right after completing his work-integrated learning period.
