SRC PRESIDENT SOLOMZI ZOLEKA SHARES STERLING ADVICE TO FIRST YEAR DUT STUDENTS

The Student Representative Council (SRC) president at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Solomzi Zoleka, has advised the first-year students to remain disciplined and to resist the temptations of a flashy lifestyle as it may impact their academic performance.

“DUT is situated in Durban, a city for frequent parties, and I have shared my thoughts with students that they can always enjoy their lives after completing their academic studies. Always prioritise your academics and become involved in the extra curriculum activities that are being provided for at the institution,’’ explained Zoleka.

The president mentioned that DUT had received thousands of applications for the 2025 academic year, he further shared that such academic opportunities could become a life changer as DUT aims to improves lives and livelihoods.

“You are an epitome of dedication and hard work. In making use of this opportunity, you are not only studying to better only yourself but to also to give solutions to the problems faced by the country,’’ he added.

Zoleka also urged the students to use the services that have been provided to them such as counselling. He also emphasised that the students must come forward when they need help from the SRC.

In alignment with the DUT’s ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, which was built on five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are further supported by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. The president has requested all the stakeholders, departments including the students  to stand together and support one another. He also vowed to provide all the necessary support to ensure that the students reach their full potential in their academics.
