Tears of joy and hope for a better future was evident on Nontuthuko Ndelu’s face as she proudly walked on the graduation stage to receive Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit award for her Advanced Diploma in Business and Information Management.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn 2024 Graduation procession which was held at the Indumiso campus, Pietermaritzburg on Monday, 13 May 2024.
The 26-year-old initially opted to study another course, but faith had led her into choosing this course.
“I came to DUT with the aim of studying Office Management and Technology, unfortunately it was phasing out that year. I then enrolled for the Business and Information Management course which was replacing it. Since then, my journey at DUT has been a good one, the coursework was a lot, however, I am proud to have managed it,” she added.
The Mthwalume born lass aims to constantly learn to also obtain her PhD and looks forward to receive the opportunity to walk the graduation stage with a red gown. Upon seeing her exceptional results, Ndelu said she became quite emotional as she remembered all the sleepless nights she had went through.
“My mom was in tears and I could not be happier for making her proud beyond words. My siblings were very happy for me and they promise to follow in my footsteps,” she shared excitedly.
She advises the first year students who are embarking on their academic studies to never lose sight of their end goal.
