MKHIZE TWINS MAKE IT TO GRADUATION

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) former Student Representative Council (SRC) members, Zandile and Zanele Mkhize will be graduating in the upcoming DUT 2023 Autumn Graduation. They were both part of the 2021/22 SRC in the DUT Midlands, where Zanele served as a Social and Welfare Officer and Zandile was a Sports, Arts and Culture Officer.

The Mkhize twins (22) are overjoyed and ready to walk down the stage to receive their qualifications. It was not easy but with focus and hard work, they have made it. They are originally from Inadi location in Pietermaritzburg.

Zanele will be obtaining her Diploma in Public Management and Administration and Zandile will receive her Diploma in Supply Chain Management. As the twins wished to walk the stage together, sadly that will not happen for them as they will be graduating on different days. Zanele’s session will be on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, at 14:00 and Zandile will be graduating on Wednesday, 17 May 2023, at 14:00.

The twins had to juggle both being part of SRC members and being students, but their hard work and dedication made them achieve and graduate for the qualifications. From dealing with student’s issues to focusing on their studies, their journey at DUT was not easy but they give it their all.

“My journey at DUT has been challenging and rewarding but I made sure that I balanced both the academic and leadership responsibilities and it was very important for me to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively. Setting specific goals and deadlines helped me to ensure that tasks were completed in a timely manner,” said Zanele.

The twins are currently pursuing their Advanced Diplomas, Zanele is studying Public Management and Administration and Zandile is studying Supply Chain Management.

They are encouraging students to always prioritise their academics and to always remember why they decided to enroll at the University, as the journey may be hard, but it will all be worth it at the end.

“Being part of SRC can be rewarding but it is also a challenging experience. It includes, prioritising tasks, managing time effectively, building relationships, communicating effectively, and managing conflicts and most importantly, prioritising academics,” said Zanele.

Sharing the same sentiments Zandile said: “Manage your time and choose your friends wisely, as the saying goes: show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”

The twins thanked their parents and siblings for being their biggest supporters throughout their academic journey.
