Nelisiwe Mbasola (21) from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal graduated Cum Laude and with 23 distinctions at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) 2024 Autumn Graduation at the Indumiso Main Hall on Monday, 13 May 2024.
Mbasola shared that she had always been a bright student, always maintaining good marks for most of her high school years. For her, choosing to study Information and Communication Technology in Business Analysis at DUT was the best decision because she felt proud every time she had passed a subject.
“I was ecstatic when I was told that I achieved Cum Laude. I was proud that hard work and perseverance led me to this achievement. When I told my family they were over the moon, and it was one of the best feelings, knowing that it was all worth it. I have no regrets with studying ICT for it opened my eyes to my academic potential. I truly believe I was meant to study it,” said Mbasola.
Mbasola aims to expand her ICT skills in the corporate world and to venture into entrepreneurship. She wants to work smart by being fully independent, financially sound and making her mark in the ICT industry.
Her advice to first year ICT students is to have self-confidence and the willingness to learn.
“Surround yourself with people who want the best for you and are motivating as well. Choose how you wish to live your life and make the most out of it and enjoy it,” advised Mbasola.
