INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO LEARNING IS AN ASPECT DISCUSSED AT THE DUT PROFESSORIAL WORKSHOP

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Faculty of Accounting and Informatics Executive Dean’s Office hosted a successful Professorial Workshop at Coastlands Musgrave on Tuesday, 25 July 2023.  The event under the helm of the faculty’s Executive Dean, Professor Oludayo Olugbara, was aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and discussing innovative ideas and approaches within the field of Accounting and Informatics and to provide guidance. With the rapid advancements in technology and its impact on various industries, it has become increasingly important for academic institutions to stay at the forefront of research and education.

In attendance at the workshop was the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics Executive Dean, Professor Oludayo Olugbara, Faculty Officer, Mrs Nitasha Singh Sakichand, Research Officer, Mr Sboniso Mjaja, Head of Department; Dr Ferina Marimuthu, Dr Smangele Moyane, Dr Wiseman Nzuza, Quality Promotions Officer, Mrs Fathima Razack, Academic Development Practitioner, Dr Rosaline Govender, and academic lecturers within the faculty of Accounting and Informatics, Prof Richard Millham, Dr Julius Aroba, Dr Haruna Maama, Dr Seena Joseph, Dr Jean Mvunabandi, Dr Divakaran Reddy, Dr Mogiveny Rajkoomar , Mr Amos Zungu, and Mr Brian Ngiba.

The Faculty Officer, Mrs Sakichand, played a crucial role in organising the workshop, ensuring that all logistics were well-coordinated and the event ran smoothly. Her efforts were commendable and contributed to the overall success of the gathering.

The presence of the Head of Departments like  Dr Marimuthu, Dr Moyane, and Dr Nzuza, showcased the commitment of the faculty to academic excellence and it also provided an opportunity for open discussions on the challenges and opportunities faced by their respective departments.

A key highlight of the workshop was the presentation by the Executive Dean, Prof Olugbara who showcased the process of creating a CV and a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirements of becoming an associate professor. This presentation stood out as a significant aspect of the event.

E-Learning coordinator, Dr Prinavin Govender demonstrated the faculty’s efforts in integrating technology into the learning experience.

The workshop also provided an opportunity for lecturers within the faculty to exchange ideas, and learn from one another. The lecturers’ participation demonstrated the commitment of the entire academic staff towards professional development and the continuous improvement of the educational experience.

Prof Olugbara commented that the Professorial Workshop was a resounding success.

“It showcased the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and technological advancements. The collaborative spirit among faculty members and their dedication to staying ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving fields of Accounting and Informatics were evident throughout the event,” he said.

Dr Nzuza, Head of Department in the department of Management Accounting, thanked everyone for a wonderful and impactful workshop session.

“I was not really sure if the workshop will meet my expectations but it exceeded my expectations, it was absolutely informative,” he said.

Prof Olugbara concluded the workshop, saying: “As the faculty continues to grow and adapt to the changing educational landscape, such workshops will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the future of academics. With the knowledge shared and ideas generated during this workshop, the faculty is poised to make even greater strides in the years to come.”
