DUT STUDENTS AWARDED CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION FOR THE NEDBANK FINANCIAL LITERACY WORKSHOP

The Financial Aid unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in collaboration with Nedbank recently hosted a Certificate of recognition Handover Ceremony held for 159 students in Durban and Midlands respectively.

The programme was aimed to enhance students’ financial literacy by providing them with essential knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively from an early age. Fundiswa Zuma  from Nedbank served as the facilitator throughout the programme, offering valuable insights and guidance on various aspects of financial management.

Welcoming guests and students at the Durban Certificates Handover Ceremony, Financial Aid Unit Manager Mr Absolom Manashe congratulated students for achieving their certificates and encouraged them to apply their knowledge in managing their finances.

“I hope this is going to be a reflection and some form of achievement for your participation in this programme. I would also like to appreciate our colleagues from Nedbank for partnering with DUT and hoping for future collaborations,” said Manashe.

To encourage active participation, corporate gifts were organised as giveaways. Students were engaged in interactive sessions, where they answered questions and won prizes, making the learning experience both educational and enjoyable. The attendance met the organiser’s expectations, and the enthusiasm of the students highlighted their keen interest in financial literacy.

Speaking on behalf of Nedbank was Ms Fundiswa Zuma who lauded DUT students for their dedication and eagerness to make sound financial decisions. “We have attended financial literacy workshop over three days and it is about appreciating you for being loyal and very discipline in terms of attending. I enjoyed all our session and I really hope what we had is the beginning of many great things that we could do together. We want to see you making informed financial decisions and living a better life,” she said.

Following the success at the Durban campus, the programme continued at the Pietermaritzburg campus, again involving students from all six faculties. The event at Pietermaritzburg was equally successful, with strong attendance, the distribution of corporate gifts, and active student participation. Fundiswa once again facilitated the programme, ensuring consistency and continuity in the delivery of content. The entire programme ran smoothly across both campuses, marking it as a resounding success.

The event featured student’s testimonials, poetry and Zulu dancers showcasing the impact of the workshop on participants.
