For the first time in history, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will be hosting the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Chess Tournament at the Fred Crookes Sport Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban from Monday, 04 December 2023 to Friday, 08 December 2023.

The tournament will consist of a maximum of 320 students coming from 20 South African universities.

According to Ms Takalani Mfamadi, DUT Sport Officer, all is set for this tournament and DUT is honoured to have received this great opportunity to host this prestigious event.

“This will develop the DUT community because this tournament will be promoting the development and well-being of students. In this tournament, as the Durban University of Technology we will be showing the values of sportsmanship, leadership, camaraderie and teamwork,” said Ms Mfamadi.

She commended her unit for showcasing one of the DUT ENVISION2030 Living Values, ‘Commitment’, by taking on such a huge task that will bring exposure to DUT. She believes this will be opportunity for students to get exposure and excel in sport.

The winners will be receiving trophies and medals from the University Sport South Africa. The outstanding players will be selected to play in the USSA Chess National Team.
