DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Patience Makhaye, spoke to Mandisa Rethabile Mahumane, a Student Admissions Assistant under the DUT Student Admissions unit.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I currently work at the DUT Student Admissions unit as a Student Admissions Assistant. I assist with registration and admission of prospective students.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?  

A: “I am new at DUT. I started working on Wednesday, 03 January 2024.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?  

A: “Accountability, I believe as a person you grow when you take responsibility for your actions.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful.  

A: “The tagline sends a powerful message of embracing creativity and individuality and creating a lasting impact in our communities. It is an indication that the institution values innovative individuals as this will set us apart from the rest.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?

A: “By staying aligned to the values and principles while also leading by example.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?  

A: “I am shy and I enjoy my own space.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?  

A: “By producing innovative and creative graduates who will know how to relate to the world and their communities.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?  

A: “I keep to myself most of the time whether I’m indoors binge-watching The Office for the thousandth time or scrolling various social media platforms for my next news fix or for a good laugh.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?  

A: “Helping students is what I strive to do in this position. So coming to work on a daily basis to earn an income and also impacting the life of a hopeful student in need, is the positive impact I aim for.”

Q: What is your daily motivation? 

A: “My mother, she has been my biggest supporter since my varsity days, so waking up every day to get that much closer to reaching my dreams and goals is my daily motivation to strive for excellence and growth in any environment I find myself in.” 

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?  

A: “My future goals include getting a permanent job and furthering my studies.”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

A: “To get a permanent job within the DUT family so I can grow, learn and evolve.”
