DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Simangele Zuma spoke to Zinhle Rashee, who is the Marketing Practitioner at the DUT Business School.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am a DUT Business School’s Marketing Practitioner. The Business School is under the ambit of the Faculty of Management Sciences. I provide brand marketing support to the Director, Acting Head Of Department, and designated departments. My role encompasses but is not limited too, strategically implementing advertising and marketing policies, ensuring excellent customer service, and aligning with Corporate Affairs and the Business School’s objectives. My focus will be on driving a cohesive and impactful marketing strategy that resonates with our target audience and reinforces the Business School’s brand positioning as we strive to advance contemporary leadership in Southern Africa and beyond.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I just recently joined the DUT family, on 1 December 2023.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “Transparency! I prioritise transparency-what you see is truly what you get when working with me. It’s a commitment to honesty and clarity in every aspect.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?
A: “As a creative, I wholeheartedly embrace this direction. From my perspective, it signifies the university’s transition into a positive new era, fostering creativity in individuals. This encourages them to excel in their respective fields and, in turn, contribute positively to their communities.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By cultivating a strong partnership with the Corporate Affairs team, staying informed through diligent review of internal communications, actively participating in employee workshops, and closely monitoring the DUT brand across various social media platforms. I will ensure a comprehensive approach to maintaining a well-informed and connected professional environment.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I’m a very talkative person.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
A: “I believe the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework will significantly benefit DUT by providing a structured and holistic approach to fostering a positive campus culture. This framework encourages shared values, enhancing collaboration, communication, and a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. It also aligns with DUT’s long-term goals, contributing to a thriving educational environment that prepares individuals for success and positive societal impact.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “I enjoy attending industry events to expand my network and connect with fellow creatives aligned with different brands. Beyond that, I’m at home, minding my business with my family.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
A: “By building strong connections with different university departments, to also connect and associate the DUT Business School with the appropriate external partners (industry experts and organisations).”

Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “The driving force behind my continuous self-improvement is the support of my family and my eagerness to strive for excellence.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “I aim to advance in my position, acquire additional skills, and pursue further academic achievements. To also collaborate with DUT Business School team to achieve local and international accredited marketing and academic awards for DUT Business School.”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: That’s a challenging one, given the extensive list of items on my wish list.”
