DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Zanele Mashaba spoke to Olunje Mazibuko, Faculty Assistant in the Midlands Faculty of Management Sciences.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I work for the Faculty of Management Sciences, as a faculty assistant in the Midlands Campus. As a faculty assistant I perform a wide variety of tasks and duties, working directly with the departments, students, faculty officer and the Deans Office.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I have been at DUT for the past six years.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “Well it’s difficult to choose one as I try to associate with all of them seeing that they all are impeccably important for the excellence of the Institution; however, one would be integrity. This is because integrity leads to adhering to the rest of core values and ethical principles, even when no one is watching. Displaying integrity means taking responsibility for one’s actions (which then includes transparency, honesty accountability, professionalism), showing respect for other team members/colleagues, and maintaining a positive attitude. Thus, encouraging diversity, fostering open communication, and ultimately creating a positive Institutional culture.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?
A: “Although there is much growth, there is still more room for improvement to reach the Institutional goals.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By implementing the Living values on a daily basis.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I’m an introvert.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
A: “DUT will reach higher performances, it will also open ways to high improvement in all spheres of the Institution.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “I like to relax in my spare time.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive Impact at DUT?
A: “To work effectively and efficiently while delivering excellent service on a daily basis.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “Seeing students that came as first years grow and mature to the graduates we see in the end.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “Improving my service delivery to all stakeholders.”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “That there be peace for everyone in the world.”
