Department of Food and Nutrition hosts International Students

Kira Friehage and Pia Hoffner are interning students from Munster University of Applied Sciences, in Munster Germany and Weiwei Sun in exchange students from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU). They arrived at DUT on the 1st of February and leave Friday, 17 June 2017.

Both Friehage and Hoffner are working on food and safety projects in two Child and Youth Care Centres in Durban, where they are conducting a safety audit to develop material to educate the children and caregivers at the facilities.
Meanwhile, Sun is attending some modules in the programme of Consumer Science in Food and Nutrition. She is also conducting a small community project where she will be assessing food safety and hygiene practices at a local soup kitchen. She will also develop some material for the ladies managing the soup kitchen.

Carol Newman, International Education officer at the Department of International Education and Partnerships, said the work being done by the students from Germany and Fujian was remarkable. “This visit by the International students further enhances the international activities in the department. Their work has been amazing,” she said.
