Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) City Campus library recently held a ceremony to unveil its newly renovated computer laboratory.
Equipped with new computers, furniture and flooring, the revamped computer lab feels modern and offers students to do their work in a relaxed and comfortable environment with super-fast internet connectivity.
According to City Campus and Brickfield Campus Libraries Coordinator, Nozipho Majola, this particular lab is mainly used by students from the Fine Art & Jewellery Design Department.
She explained that a few years ago the department approached the library asking for assistance with space for setting up a computer laboratory because they didn’t have enough space in their venue. The library had space and agreed to house the computer lab. Over the years the lab is not only being used by Fine Art and Jewellery Design students but students from other Faculty of Arts and Design programmes and Majola also uses the lab to train students in Information literacy.
Fine Art and Jewellery Design’s Head of Department, Dr Chris De Beer thanked the library for housing their computer laboratory for all these years and for the renovations which were done in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts and Design.
Dr De Beer said the Faculty of Arts and Design’s Executive Dean, Dr René Smith emphasised how much she appreciates the role the library plays in the lives of students and the contribution it makes to growing their knowledge.
Manager for DUT Site Libraries, Siza Radebe thanked the Faculty of Arts and Design for collaborating with the library in renovating the computer laboratory and for the supporting the City Campus library refurbishment project in 2017 which saw the entire library get a makeover.
