The burning question . . .

The burning question . . .

Durban University of Technology second year Graphic design student, Jonathan Du Bois claimed the first prize in a Climate Change poster competition hosted by the University and Satyagraha. The competition was held in the build up to the COP17 conference. Du Bois won a 100% remission of fees. First year Graphic design student Skye Steen came second, earning a 50% remission of her tuition fees and Kai Pretorius took home a 25% fee remission.

The winning design by Du Bois featured a typically South African braai scene, with the words: The burning question: Do you think future generations will say “Well done”? (click here to view)

“I feel ecstatic, very blessed. The prize is perfect, exactly what I needed,” said Du Bois.

The bubbly 20 year old Steen summed up her excitement by saying she didn’t expect it at all and that she was left practically speechless. Steen however believes the climate change issue can be addressed in a broader context than what is happening now. “People know about it but the in depth analysis is lacking. We should introduce it through education so that we all know what we need to know,” commented Steen.

Senior Director of Corporate Affairs Alan Khan said the university is pleased and amazed by the quality of work it received from the students who entered the competition. The occasion was graced by the presence of Chancellor Ela Gandhi. The top ten took home prize money of R1 000 each. (read document)
