In an effort to address the ever-present need for the marketing of the programmes and courses of the Durban University of Technology in the Midlands region, the Midlands Student Services & Development Department launched a new initiative, for 2011, namely, the DUT Midlands Open Day. This was done in conjunction with all academic faculties represented in the Midlands.
This event took place on 27th July 2011 at the Indumiso Campus Main Hall. This valuable marketing exercise was well attended by teachers and learners from six Secondary schools situated in close proximity to Indumiso Site. The schools were Sukuma Comprehensive School, Mehlokazulu High school, Maritzburg College, Zibukezulu Secondary School and Zamazulu Secondary School. A total of seven hundred learners and ten teachers attended the Open Day Programme which included a student stream and a teacher stream.
Learners were briefed as to how to choose a career, programmes offered at DUT, application procedures, closing dates and financial aid procedures.
Teachers were provided with information packs and one-on-one sessions with strategic student services staff.
The success of the exhibition relied heavily on partnerships forged between Academic Heads of Departments, academic staff, Student Services staff and REMO.
