Durban University of Technology (DUT) officially launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, comprising five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are underpinned by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT Communications team member, Vukani Langa engaged in a conversation with Samkelisiwe Mntambo, who is an Administrative Assistant at the Dean’s Office in the Faculty of Engineering and the Build Environment to delve into the living values framework and ENVISION2030.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT.
“I provide essential support to ensure the smooth functioning of the office. I strive to deliver efficiency and professionalism in all that I do. I approach every task with respect and dedication, as I believe in fostering a collaborative and respectful environment.”
Q: How long have you been part of the DUT family?
“I have been privileged to be a member of the DUT family for five years, beginning my journey as a student in 2019. Over this time, I have grown both personally and professionally, developing a deeper appreciation for the university’s values and mission.”
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
“I strongly resonate with respect and professionalism. Being a shy person, I deeply value creating an environment where everyone feels acknowledged and appreciated. Respect lays the foundation for meaningful relationships and a supportive workplace.”
Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?
“I find the tagline both inspiring and empowering. It motivates me to contribute my own creativity and professionalism to make an impact, however small, within the university community.”
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
“I plan to actively engage in workshops, seminars, and training sessions offered by DUT. Staying informed and participating in initiatives that will help me to align my actions with the university’s vision and values.”
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
“Many people may not know that I am a deeply reflective person. While I might appear reserved, I am passionate about making thoughtful decisions that positively affect others.”
Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
“This framework has the potential to unify the DUT community under a shared vision and purpose. By promoting values such as transparency, accountability, and respect, it can create a culture where everyone thrives and contributes to the university’s growth.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
“In my spare time, I enjoy reading and watching movies. These activities allow me to relax, reflect, and grow both personally and professionally.”
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
“I aim to contribute to DUT by maintaining my professionalism and fostering an environment of respect and collaboration in my role. I believe even small actions, like lending a listening ear or efficiently handling administrative tasks have a meaningful impact.”
Q: What is your daily motivation?
“My daily motivation comes from the desire to grow, serve, and contribute meaningfully to the DUT community. Knowing that my efforts help make a difference keeps me focused and driven.”
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
“I aspire to continue developing my skills and taking on more responsibilities within the university. My long-term goal is to play a strategic role in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting DUT’s vision.”

“If granted one wish, I would wish for unlimited opportunities for learning and growth for everyone at DUT. Knowledge and skill development can empower individuals to achieve their dreams and contribute to a better world.”
