Durban University of Technology (DUT) officially launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, comprising five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are underpinned by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT Communications team member, Phiwayinkosi Sibiya recently engaged in a conversation with Nqobile Sibisi, the Administrator of the Department of Human Resources Management to delve into the living values framework and ENVISION2030.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “My role at DUT is ensuring the smooth operations and overseeing the administrative functions within the Department of Human Resources Management (HRM) and to strive to embody integrity and excellence in my work.”
Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I joined DUT as a student in 2016 and in 2022 I became an employee of DUT, I must say it has been a beautiful and insightful experience being part of the DUT family.”
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “I associate myself with integrity. I believe that integrity is the foundation of all the DUT Living Values, especially with the scope of work that I do, I strongly believe that it is very important for people to trust and rely on you no matter what.”
Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative, Distinctive, Impactful?
A: “I believe it is a powerful mantra for achieving excellence which DUT is striving for. Embracing these principles enables the DUT community to foster innovation, excellence and a meaningful change.”
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By attending Living Values Framework workshops and trainings to stay informed on the new initiatives and developments and to integrate Living Values into my daily duties.”
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I am a DIY enthusiast; especially as far as interior designing is concerned. I enjoy creating beautiful spaces.”
Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
ENVISION2030 will have a profound positive impact on DUT. The Living Values will enhance our institution’s reputation and transform our university into vibrant, student-centred hub of academic excellence.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “In my spare time I love exploring new things, places and outdoor activities and also spending quality time with my loved ones.”
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
A: “I plan to develop my research ability so that I can engage in research projects and collaborate with my colleagues and engage in community service initiatives.”
Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “To never give up. Restart, reset and refocus if need be but never give up.”
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A:“I envision myself growing both academically and professionally within the DUT and also to contribute to DUT’s growth and excellence.”
Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “To have financial freedom. Financial freedom would provide freedom from debt, stress, and financial worries. Ability to pursue passions such as travel, and to explore all opportunities. Capacity to support loved ones, charities, and the community. Freedom to make choices, uninfluenced by financial constraints.”
