The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, which was built on five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are further supported by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. Recently, Thubelihle Dumakude from the DUT Communications team engaged in a conversation with Nonhlanhla Chiliza, Faculty Assistant in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at DUT, to explore the significance of the Living Values Framework and ENVISION2030.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I’m a Faculty Assistant in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.”
Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I joined the Faculty in 2017 as an intern at the Executive Dean’s Office and resumed my current role from 2020.”
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “Integrity-this is mainly because integrity can sum up almost all the ENVISION2030 Living values and principles. I always try my utmost best to remain committed, reliable, honest, fair, take accountability while treating everyone with respect and compassion.”
Q: What are your views on the DUT tagline: Creative, Distinctive, Impactful?
A: “The tagline effectively blends well with DUT’s distinctive image and has been underscoring the Institutions intention to be impactful and Innovative.”
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By actively participating in the institution’s initiatives and ensuring that I incorporate the Living Values in my daily work.”
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I am an open book.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “Reading, from academic journals to non-academic journals, fiction, and motivational books as long as it a good read, I am in.”
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
A: “By ensuring that I maintain authenticity and integrity in handling my work responsibilities and upholding my faculty’s positive reputation.”
Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “Embrace the journey and find joy in the present moment.”
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “I desire growth academically and professionally within DUT.”
Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “To see my future and structure it myself. I know God sees it but it would be great to get a glimpse of what it looks like.”
