The Sport Administration unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will be hosting the second annual Vice-Chancellor’s Cup at the Indumiso campus in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, 05 October 2024 from 08h00 to 15h00. This event is aimed at promoting the development and well-being of students and staff at the university.
The first teams from Durban based DUT campuses representing aerobics, athletics, volleyball, basketball, chess, e-sport, football, karate, netball and touch rugby will be competing against the first teams the DUT Midlands campuses. The DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu will award the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Cup to the winning campus with the most points in all of the sport codes.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Cup aims to foster a sense of pride and belonging, creating lasting memories and friendships amongst the DUT community. It is an event that will celebrate the values of sportsmanship, camaraderie, leadership and teamwork. It will also provide an opportunity for students to showcase their talent, athleticism and team spirit in a range of sports and activities.
One of the greatly anticipated highlights of the event will be an exhibition football match between the DUT executive management, who will play against a team representing the DUT labour unions.
Mr Bongani Yengwa, Manager of the Sport Administration unit at DUT said the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup marks DUT’s commitment to supporting and promoting development and a healthy lifestyle amongst DUT students and staff.
“The Vice-Chancellor’s Cup forms an integral part of university life, one that promotes the well-being of students and staff. It provides an opportunity for students to excel in sports, showcase their talents and to foster a spirit of a healthy competition,” said Mr Yengwa.
