Understanding the importance of an administrator in a business environment is what inspired Musa Mbonambi’s Administration and Information Management journey.
The 27-year-old graduated for her Master’s Degree under the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2024 Spring Graduation ceremony, held at the Durban Exhibition Centre on Thursday, 19 September 2024.
The Esikhawini born is currently working at DUT, under the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment as an Electrical Power Engineering Research Administrator. In terms of her career path, Mbonambi wanted to be in an environment where her leadership skills can be developed, working with a team with the same vision as hers.
Her journey with DUT began in 2016 where she enrolled for a National Diploma in Office Management and Technology. On her third-year of studying, she was awarded an opportunity to be the Finance Officer at the office of Student Representative Committee (SRC). She felt her journey was definitely a bumpy road and forced her into an isolation phase.
“It was hard to balance work and personal commitments. The journey affected my well-being, I was diagnosed with depression, my mental health was strongly affected. During this journey, I lost connection with the Lord, ended up not going to church as the study took most of my time. I struggled to balance the pressures that came with my studies and work and I found myself with poor health and lack of concentration,” said Mbonambi.
Speaking on the DUT living values and principles, Mbonambi drove deep into the act of integrity, saying it was something she was taught from a young age.
“It is important to have integrity as a student and as a staff member, moreover integrity is something we carry even from birth, it should be a norm. I strongly believe that integrity holds a significant weight in all that we do. I see myself as an individual who possesses a strong moral compass, I love to always adhere to ethical principles,” she concluded.
