Fumani Delight Maluleke was recognised by the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics for academics, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT)’s 2024 Autumn Graduation ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre on 23 May 2024.
The 24-year-old from Giyani (Nkuri Tomu Village) in the Limpopo province graduated for her Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation with the Dean’s Merit award. Her journey with DUT began in 2019 when she had enrolled for her Diploma in Accounting and graduated with Cum Laude. She further studied towards her Advanced Diploma in Taxation, also graduating with Cum Laude. She could not hide her happiness, as she had felt all the struggles she suffered as a student were preparing her for greatness.
“I had a language barrier challenge, I did not speak IsiZulu, communicating with other students was difficult. I was communicating with everyone in English, but other students did not want to speak English, however, we came together and discussed a way forward,” she shared.
According to Maluleke, accounting was her first choice of study as she always had an interest in working with numbers since high school. She chose accounting because it allowed her to develop skills such as leadership and strategic thinking and valuable skills when it came to working in the world of business and finance.
She is currently working at Vevegan James and Associates Chartered Accountants and Registered Auditors as a Junior Accounts clerk.
Maluleke advises those embarking on their academic studies to put God first and let him be the foundation of their education journey.
