Yuresha Govender’s remarkable academic journey embodies excellence, perseverance, and dedication. This year, she had graduated Cum Laude and had obtained her second Dean’ Merit award with her Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing at the Durban University of Technology 2024 Autumn Graduation Ceremony on Thursday (23 May 2024) at the Olive Convention Centre, Durban.
Govender had always been a fan of internal auditing and she is already employed as an Internal Audit associate by one of the big four accounting firms. She was excited to make meaningful contributions that drive positive change within the organisations that she serves. She believes that internal auditing offers a unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of businesses. She envisions it as a continuous learning and growth pathway, offering dynamic challenges and opportunities to expand her skills and expertise.
On her Dean’s Merit Award accomplishment, the 25-year-old shared she felt honoured and encouraged to continue excelling.
“It was an incredible honour and validation of the effort I had put into my studies. I am ecstatic that the countless hours of hard work, dedication, and sacrifices I had made throughout my academic journey had paid off. I could not have achieved this without the support of my professors and my family. This achievement motivated me to continue striving for excellence in all aspects of my life,’’ she said.
She added that her journey was never easy and that she had encountered significant challenges. She had to balance a full-time job with her academic pursuits, juggling between the demands of an 8 AM to 5 PM work schedule alongside coursework.
“It had presented a daunting obstacle, impacting my study time and personal life. The relentless cycle of late nights, early mornings, and minimal rest took its toll, leaving me exhausted and stretched thin. Despite these challenges, I had approached the situation with determination and sought support from my family and peers,’’ she said.
However, through perseverance, he not only conquered but emerged from it with greater resilience and a deeper understanding of his capabilities. Ultimately, these experiences had taught him valuable lessons in adaptability, problem-solving, and perseverance.
The ambitious Govender is currently in the process of writing her board exams in the Certified Internal Auditors designation thereafter and pursuing her Master’s in Internal Auditing.
