Tertia Vermooten’s ambitions to make an impact in the health sector and bring about change to people’s well-being has fuelled her to continuously excel in her academics.
Vermooten graduated with her Degree in Homeopathy with a Dean’s Merit Award at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Wednesday, 22 May 2024. She is already doing her Master of Health Sciences in Homeopathy and aiming for a PhD.
“I want to build a career as a registered Homeopath and create awareness about Homeopathy and all it has to offer the community. I want to help people through alternative medicine. I want everyone in South Africa to know they have options for alternative medical care,’’ she said.
She was born in Johannesburg but grew up in a small town named Howick. Vertmooten shared her excitement on passing with the Deans’ Merit award.
“Graduating with Dean’s Merit award came as a surprise to me, and I am still shocked. It is so rewarding to have acknowledgment for the hard work, late nights, and many tears shed during the four years of study,’’ she said.
The 23-year-old has lauded her family, classmates, and DUT lecturers for guidance and endless support in her academic achievement.
“My family has made huge sacrifices for me to pursue my studies. My classmates and I would not have been able to achieve the Dean’s Merit awards without their steadfast support. I have also had the privilege of being lectured by the best lecturers both in the Homeopathy department as well as in the Basic Health Sciences department,’’ she said.
