A Public Relations and Communications Master’s student, Zizipho Noqazo, is flying the Durban University of Technology (DUT) flag high after winning the Overall Best Presenter Award, from over 80 presenters from more than 15 different countries, at the 10th International Conference on Social Sciences 2023. It was recently held in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference took place both in-person and virtually.
Natashya Kodituwakku, the Conference Secretariat congratulated Noqazo on her outstanding achievements at the 10th International Conference on Social Studies (ICOSS 2023). She said that Noqazo had impressed the audience with her insightful research and dynamic presentation.
“Her contributions to the field of social studies were exceptional, sparking thought-provoking discussions among attendees from around the world. The ICOSS provides a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in social studies, and we believe your institution has valuable expertise to contribute. We hope to see her and more of your faculty members at our future conferences,” said Kodituwakku.
Noqazu’s presentation was titled: The Uptake of Digital Marketing By Rural Communities In Flagstaff, South Africa.
The aim of her study was to determine the uptake of digital marketing by consumers in rural areas of Flagstaff, a place where she was born and brought up in.
When hearing the news of her win, Noqazo said presenting her study at ICOSS was a highlight in her journey as a researcher and being awarded the Overall Best Presenter Award was her biggest achievement thus far.
“To have my work presented in such a huge platform and appreciated was validating. It was truly a dream realised,” she said euphorically.
Extending his heartfelt congratulations to Noqazo was the DUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement (DVC:RIE), Professor Fulufhelo Nemavhola
“Your outstanding contributions have not only brought immense pride to your peers and mentors but have also significantly aligned with the principles and goals of ENVISION2030. Your dedication onto your research and your active participation in ICOSS 2023 have showcased your commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation in the field of social studies,” said Prof Nemavhola.
He commented that her work has not only earned recognition but has also highlighted the importance of academic research in addressing critical global challenges and contributing to sustainable development.
Noqazo explained that her supervisor Dr Elvis Madondo was the one who told her about the conference. He helped her to register so she could present virtually.“I could not have achieved this without the guidance and support of my supervisor, Dr Madondo,” she stressed.
Dr Elvis Madondo was all smiles upon hearing the news of his student’s accolade. “I would like to further congratulate Noqazo for winning this award as my student. Nothing comes on its own. You worked for it, and it will work for you. Continue to work hard and go beyond the usual sky limit. The ladder has more steps, keep climbing girl,” he said proudly.
Head of Department: Public Relations, Prof Veena Rawjee extended her congratulations to Noqazo and mentioned that her achievement has further augmented the Department’s relationship with the conference organisers. “We are extremely proud of you and will reward your achievement at the Annual Student Awards function, said Prof Rawjee.
Noqazu’s advice to their students is to consider participating at conferences as an opportunity to showcase their talents, share knowledge, and market themselves.
She is currently residing in Pretoria where she is doing her internship at the Department of Human Settlements.
