Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Office Professional Forum hosted the ENVISION2030 Strategy Workshop. The workshop was held on Wednesday, 12 July 2023 from 10h00 to 12h30 on Microsoft Teams.
The ENVISION2030 Strategy Workshop was attended by all DUT’s administrative assistants, secretaries, faculty officers and executive secretaries. There were 103 DUT staff members that were in attendance.
Ms Thulile Duma, the Chairperson of DUT Office Professional Forum was the facilitator of the workshop. Ms Duma welcomed the attendees to the workshop.
“The reason behind the ENVISION2030 Strategy Workshop, is for us as first point of contact for all students as well as external stakeholders. It is important to have a clear understanding of the current strategy and living values and principles of the University. We also need to understand the importance of these Values, because we are going to apply these principles in our daily work,” explained Ms Duma.
DUT Performance Management Specialist, Ms Brownen Naidoo based her presentation on the 360 Degree Evaluation. The 360 Degree Evaluation is a roadshow that was started in June 2023 and it is open for all employees, contract and permanent employees.
“Eventually, the 360 Degree Evaluation will be opened for all but for now the 360 Degree Evaluation is opened for those employees that have completed a 2022 performance agreement and evaluation. Every year DUT employees will undergo 360 Degree Evaluation which is part of the performance management system,” said Ms Naidoo.
Ms Naidoo continued to say the 360 Degree Evaluation is linked directly to the LV Framework. There are many versions of the 360 Degree Evaluation but the one that DUT has adopted is the one that speaks to the DUT five Values and five Principles.
DUT Director for Organisation Development and Talent Management, Mr Avhatakali Nenungwi was also doing his presentation at the Workshop. Mr Nenungwi’s presentation focused on the DUT ENVISION2030 LV Framework. He highlighted that ENVISION2030 LV Framework which is a document that was approved by the university Executive Management committee in 2022. He continued to say as Human Capital Services and other units within the organisation they have been given the mandate to drive and rollout the LV Framework in different ways and platform.
“I invite you to take part in the programme because it is not the Human Capital Services job to create a conducive culture for DUT but it is a collective responsibility for all the people that work at DUT. To ensure that we create a distinct culture within DUT. As Brownen rightfully called it, the DUT Way,” said Mr Nenungwi.
The attendees were given an opportunity to ask questions and voice out their opinions about the topics presented.
In closing, Ms Duma thanked all the colleagues who availed themselves regardless of the vacation period to attend the workshop.
