Nine graduates from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) kick started their careers with BET Software in Umhlanga, Durban, on 1 February 2022.
These graduates will spend a year as part of BET Software’s Graduate Programme which is paid work experience, where they will learn about all aspects of the company.
They have a set out work plan for the twelve months ahead, which includes learning soft skills, business skills, financial literacy, whilst getting to know BET Software’s core products and being mentored by an allotted BET Software Team Member. BET Software aims to fully employ these graduates at the end of the twelve months’ period.
Seven of the nine graduates were bursary recipients of BET Software’s “Dare to Dream” ICT bursaries. They are Nolwazi Kubheka – Advanced Diploma in ICT, Samukelisiwe Zulu – Advanced Diploma ICT specialising in Business Analysis, Charity Bayeni – Advanced Diploma in ICT, Londiwe Blose – Advanced Diploma in ICT, Sanele Mbokazi – Advanced Diploma in ICT, Nonjabulo Mtembu – Advanced Diploma in ICT and Phindile Hlongwane – Advanced Diploma in ICT.
The remaining two graduates, Thobani Bhulose (BTech, IT) and Ratul Ramdhani (Advanced Diploma in Information and Communication Technology), were not part of the bursary initiative, but had applied for the grad programme, and were accepted.
“Thank you very much BET Software for this amazing opportunity. I would not have been able to progress this far in my studies without your assistance. To be joining this forward-thinking company means everything to me. Continue doing this for other students,” said Samukelisiwe Zulu.
According to Michael Collins, General Manager at BET Software, the BET Software Team believes strongly in partnering with tertiary institutions. “We love seeing students excel, and we have been proud to support, as well as provide bursaries to these young leaders of tomorrow. We welcome them to BET Software and look forward to witnessing their growth within the company,” he said.
Professor Olugbara, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics at DUT, said that the University was highly enthused that nine DUT graduates from the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics have been absorbed into the graduate programme of BET software. “The faculty has developed a strong relationship with the BET Software that annually award bursaries to trainees on their graduate programme. It is an absolute delight to learn that this regiment of graduates has secured positions in the graduate programme of BET Software. Felicitations to each graduate for the wonderful feat. We wish them all the best as they continue to raise the faculty flag high by advancing their knowledge and skillset in the industry,” explained Prof Olugbara.
He further thanked BET Software for working with Mrs Ugeshni Moodley, the Faculty Engagement Coordinator, to assist the graduates in obtaining bursaries that allowed them to accomplish their qualifications.
“The incessant winning of bursaries by our students and graduates is a strong indicator that they are a class-act and high-achievers with academic credentials and extracurricular commitments deemed worthy of celebrations,” added Prof Olugbara.
