German exchange students arrive at DUT

A group of German exchange students has arrived at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) for a term of study. The forty plus students, from Ravensburg and Loerrach, were warmly welcomed by the International Education and Partnerships (IEP) department during an orientation on Friday, 3 February.

IEP’s Dr. Lavern Samuels assured the students that the next three months at DUT will be a productive period. Students will be placed in their respective departments which will afford them the opportunity to experience lectures from different perspectives.

The students were excited about being in South Africa. Industrial Engineering student Mark Krugel said, “South Africa has an interesting culture and vibe. I love the food here as well. My favourite meal is the bunny chow.” On the contrary, International Business student Elizabeth Rusak said tasting a tripe dish had made her skeptical to taste other traditional meals!

Katrin Wipper, also studying International Business said, “I love the warm weather in Durban. The people here are very hospitable.”

This student exchange initiative by the IEP was established in 2008. Dr. Samuels said the programme started with only two international students. He was delighted to mention that the number of students who have expressed interest in the institution has increased significantly.
